Restoring Her Future: Combating school dropouts in Machinga District (Malawi).
The Liwonde Female Sex Workers Alliance (LIFESA) implements a practical support initiative in Machinga District targeting adolescent girls who dropped out of school and engaged in sex work due to early marriage, poverty, and harmful cultural norms.
Since February 2025, the initiative restores dignity and future prospects by facilitating re-enrollment into formal education. LIFESA provides school supplies, menstrual hygiene kits, psychosocial support, transportation assistance, and mentorship tailored to each girl’s needs.
The initiative does not conduct awareness campaigns but delivers direct, life-changing support to girls who are ready to leave sex work and return to school in a safe and empowering environment.
